학부모님들께:

2008년 가을 학기는 한국학교의 날과 추석 명절을 First Baptist Church of Syracuse, 그리고 기쁨의 강 교회 성도들과 또한 시라큐스 지역의 미국인 가정들과 함께 기념하는 참으로 의미깊고 보람있었던 학기였습니다. 10월 18일 개최된 이번 행사에서 학생들은 물론 학부모님 그리고 지역 미국인들도 모두 한국문화 체험을 할 수 있었습니다. 많은 준비로 헌신하셨던 선생님, 학부모, 자문위원회에 진심으로 감사 드립니다. 여러분의 아낌없는 지원과 후원으로 가능했던 일입니다. 또한 이번학기부터 시작한 천지인 그룹의 사물놀이 특별활동 수업이 우리 학생들의 열화와 같은 인기를 독차지하였습니다. 새 학기에도 계속될 것이고 학부모님들께서도 배우실 수 있습니다. 자녀들과 함께 한국의 전통 사물놀이를 배우실 수 있는 기회가 있기를 기원합니다. 주위의 성인들께도 오픈되어있으니 널리 선전하여주시면 감사하겠습니다.

한가지 공지사항이 있습니다. 2009년 봄학기 부터는 한국학교의 정규시간을 일요일 오후 2시30분 부터 5시 30분까지로 변경하게 됩니다. 이렇게 되면 토요일 오전의 특별활동으로 참석지 못하던 많은 한인과 미국인 입양아 가정의 자녀들이 더 많이 한국학교에 참석하게 됩니다. 아무쪼록 많은 협조와 후원을 부탁드립니다. 시간 변동을 아낌없이 후원하신 스콧 목사님과 이영문 목사님께 진심으로 감사드립니다.

2009년 봄학기는 2월 8일 개학식을 시작으로 5월 10일에 마치게 됩니다. 주요일정은 3월22일 한국학교의 날과 공개수업 그리고 학부모-교사회의가 있고 5월10일 종업식 겸 피크닉이 계획되어있습니다. 3월22일 한국학교의 날 적극적인 참여를 부탁드립니다.

Dear Parents:

Thank you very much for your continuing participation and support for the school. On October 18, 2008, with the First Baptist Church of Syracuse and the River of Joy Korean Church, we celebrated the third Korean School Day and the Choo Seok Holiday (Korean Thanksgiving Day) with many parents, friends, and community members of Syracuse . All of our students and their parents enjoyed traditional games and cooking, including delicious Man-Doo (Korean Dumpling). In the spring semester of 2009, the Korean School Day is scheduled on March 22 with many of New Year’s holiday cultural activities. Please join us with your children.

The spring of 2009 semester will start on February 8 with the registration and Opening Ceremony and end on May 10 with picnic and Closing Ceremony together. School offers Jin-Dal-Lae Class (4-11 year olds), Tae-Keuk Class (12-18 year olds), and Han-Ma-Eum Class (adults) for local American community, especially with the American Family Korean Network (AFKN). Please share this information with many of your friends and help school build meaningful relationship with the community. The school will change its school day and hours to Sunday from 2:30 to 5:30 due to the request from families including AFKN. For them, Saturday morning is occupied with extracurricular activities such as soccer games, martial arts, and so on. The school is ready to accommodate increasing registrations of students from AFKN with several months of surveys and other necessary preparations in changing the school day and hours. In the spring semester, I hope to see many those who used to attend but could not make the school and those who never did before, due to the schedule conflicts.

In this semester, the school proudly announces that the Cheon-Ji-In Korean traditional drum club curriculum has been a big success. Children love to play the various instruments and are ready to perform with the Cheon-Ji-In in next February at Syracuse University . Please join this wonderful opportunity. All students who register for Spring semester will have an access to this wonderful opportunity.

학부모님들께:

한국학교 건물 이전으로 분주한 2008년 봄 학기였습니다. 한인교회로 부터 2008년 봄학기를 마지막으로 건물을 비어줄 것을 통지받고, 2007년부터 시라큐스 내 많은 교회를 접촉한 결과, 2008년 4월17일 이전한 새로운 학교건물은 First Baptist Church of Syracuse (FBCS)입니다. 현재 기쁨의 강 교회가 함께 사용하는 곳입니다. 모든 교실이 1층에 위치하고, 채광이 탁월하여 학생들이 모두 밝은 분위기에서 봄 학기의 잔여부분을 성공적이고 기쁜 마음으로 마칠 수 있었습니다. 그동안 열악한 교실 환경에서 불평없이 수학정진한 학생들과 선생님 모두에게 자랑스러운 마음을 전합니다. 또한 한국학교를 하나의 Partner로 환영하여 주신 FBCS의 스콧 캐비너 목사님 (Rev. Scott Kavanagh)과 기쁨의 강 교회 이영문 목사님께 한국학교 자문위원단과 선생님을 대신하여 심심한 감사의 말씀을 전합니다.  

2008년 가을학기는 9월 6일 개학식을 시작으로 12월 13일에 마치게 됩니다. 주요일정은 10월18일 한국학교의 날과 공개수업 그리고 학부모-교사회의가 계획되어 있습니다. 이날은 한 건물 내의 두 교회와 한국학교가 전체 중부 뉴욕 한/미 커뮤니티를 초청하여 가을 페스티발을 겸하게 됩니다. 적극적인 참여를 부탁드립니다.  봄학기에는 입양아 어린이들을 중심으로 한달에 한번 1시간 반에 걸친 한국학교 준비반을 새로 입양아 그룹과 함께 제공하였고 매번 40여명이 참여하는 대 성공을 거두고 Post Standard에 대서특필된 바 있습니다. 이번학기에도 계속키로 하였습니다. 주위에 관심있는 분들께 알려서 더 많은 입양아들이 함께 할 수 있도록 도와주시기 바랍니다. 또한 새로운 장소에서 시라큐스 대학 천지인 사물놀이 패와 함께 매주 토요일 한국의 전통 사물놀이를 강습하게 됩니다. 학생은 물론 한/미 성인 여러분 모두에게 공개되오니 수강신청하여 주시기 바랍니다. 한 학기가 지나면 사물놀이 전문가가 되실 수 있을 것으로 사료됩니다. 장구, 꽹과리 등 모두 악기 일체는 한국학교에서 제공합니다. 많은 분들과 함께 새로운 장소에서 새로운 마음으로 한국학교의 새로운 가을학기를 시작하기를 바라오며, 건강한 여름 보내시길 기원합니다.
